Synopsis
Again hoping for a promotion, Ralph passes among his fellow bus drivers, taking up a collection for a wedding present for the boss' daughter. Through a misunderstanding, Alice assumes that the watch he has purchased as the wedding present is actually a gift for her. In order to retrieve the watch without arousing suspicion, Ralph and Ed talk one of their pals into posing as a burglar, then stealing the watch in full view of Alice. Unfortunately, a real crook overhears this scheme, and things go quickly downhill from there. Originally telecast as a 38-minute sketch on the February 25, 1955, edition of The Jackie Gleason Show, "The Great Jewel Robbery" was restaged on March 4, 1967, in color and with songs, as an episode of Gleason's Miami-based variety series. The 1967 version featured Pert Kelton, who originated the role of Alice Kramden on Cavalcade of Stars in 1950, as Alice's mother.
