Synopsis
Ralph decides to become the manager for small-town boxing champ Dynamite Moran. To Alice's horror, Ralph converts the Kramden apartment into Dynamite's "training gym," even allowing Moran to move in with the couple. No sooner has Ralph managed to line up a fight for Dynamite than he discovers that his "boy" has a glass jaw -- and thus does another get-rich-quick scheme get shot down in flames. Among the supporting players is future sportscaster Heywood Hale Broun as Ralph's seemingly mild-mannered neighbor. Originally telecast April 10, 1954, as a 37-minute sketch on The Jackie Gleason Show, "The Next Champ" was repeated on December 2, 1967, in color and with songs, on Gleason's Miami-based variety series; this time around, Dynamite Moran was played by musical comedy star Peter Palmer.
