Synopsis
Ralph has never been fond of Alice's brother Frank and has even less reason to like the man when Frank tries to borrow $500 to purchase an old, dilapidated hotel in New Jersey. Discovering that the hotel is strategically located right next to the site of a new superhighway -- and thus stands to make a fortune from the tourist trade -- Ralph decides to "borrow" Frank's idea and buy the hotel himself, installing Alice, Ed Norton, and Ed's wife Trixie as the hotel staff. This brilliant idea comes to naught when Ralph finds out the real reason that Frank wanted the hotel. Originally telecast November 27, 1954, as a 35-minute sketch on The Jackie Gleason Show, "Brother-in-Law" was restaged February 4, 1967, in color and with songs, as an episode of Gleason's Miami-based variety series.
