Synopsis
Gene's occasional sleepwalking and general insomnia present some new difficulties to his non-sleep-challenged shipmates. Melfina continues to practice her domestic duties, with mixed results. Jim and Gilliam give Gene a wake-up call. Jim resents Gene's self-described "mild" case of burnout, because he feels that Gene is making up excuses for not pulling his weight. Jim wants to plan for the future while Gene is living for the moment. The dearth of job connections on Heifong makes Jim nervous. Gene adopts a "don't worry, be happy" attitude. Suzuka plays a few head games, mostly with Gene. Even Melfina notices that Gene isn't really himself. Gilliam is paranoid about being attacked by pirates, but Gene wishes he could stir up a little action. Unexpectedly, Gene sets course for the Toward Stars Inn, a place where he can find some "business." Suzuka has her own business to take care of, so she splits. While Melfina window shops, Gene briefs Jim on a bounty that can be collected -- a big bounty on a guy named Zomba. Zomba turns out to be a pale character with corn silk hair; Gene goes mano a mano with him in an abandoned church. Bounty collected, the proud hunters cross paths again with Suzuka, and learn more about what her business entailed. On the way back to the ship, Gene learns about a high profile space race that's run from Heifong. Gene is thunderstruck as he watches the race's promotional video because it contains a clue about a score that he's been meaning to settle for a long time.
