Synopsis
Horus docks on a long-abandoned asteroid; Hilda, Gene, Jim, and Melfina get a look at a futuristic grappler ship. Known only as the XGP15A-II, the ship is special because it was built with the pirates' brains and the space forces' technology. Gene and the gang have a good time touring the ship; Melfina has reservations -- for a few moments, that is. Hilda deploys technology that awakens the ship from its long sleep. She then shares some secrets about the intertwining of her own past and that of the ship. Once activated, the ship finds its voice and discloses that its name is Gilliam II. Gilliam imprints onto his new crew while attempting to understand their extremely divergent personalities. Surprisingly, or perhaps not so, Melfina proves she's more than just a pretty face. Hilda and Horus provide some protection as Gene, Jim, and Melfina figure out what they're supposed to do with Gilliam and the XGP15A-II. Jim frees the new ship's engines. The aged Tao master and his minions invade the XGP's docking bay and a fight ensues. Hilda battles the pirate's grappler ship, while Gene has to make due with a grappler ship that has no grappler weapons. McDougal shows up, but nobody is sure which side is he on. Gene gets a good look at McDougal's ship -- and it brings back unpleasant memories. Pyrotechnics put everyone in peril from the nearby sun's steep gravity well. Hilda makes a last ditch effort to re-join the crew. As she says, Outlaws never go down easy.
