Synopsis
Swanzo and Mikey help Gene and company when they arrive back at Blue Heaven in the XGP grappler ship. Gene ponders Hilda's fate, pirates, the Galactic Lay Line, and McDougal's involvement. A lot of other loose ends come back to roost, such as Lady Aisha Clanclan of the Ctarl-Ctarl. Mikey says she was snooping around after her flagship left her behind. Gene discovers that he is a different pilot when he's piloting the XGP. A mysterious cloaked stranger stops the trio on their way to get a bite to eat and a huge, and hugely humorous, fight ensues. Lady Aisha "schools" Gene and Jim, then teaches them a mostly verbal lesson about the ancient powers of the Ctarl-Ctarl. Gene ponders his space wooziness while Melfina asks questions about her identity and her origins. There's time, albeit brief, to reminisce about Hilda and what she meant to the adventurers. Gene takes responsibility for Melfina; Jim shops for caster shells; and Aisha tracks Gene down -- yet again. Aisha attempts to go to "full beast mode," but fails, lacking the necessary strength. Sharing a snack together, Aisha divulges more about what it is to be a Ctarl-Ctarl and Gene plays a shell game. Back at the dock, the XGP gets a new coat of paint and her official name, and Swanzo gives up some info on the Kei pirates. To get what the ship needs, Gene plans a rendezvous with Fred Luo, an old business acquaintance back on Sentinel. Finally, Aisha discovers just what can happen when you don't have enough cash to cover your restaurant tab, and don't you know that kittens hate getting their mittens wet.
