Synopsis
Suzuka: to kill is her profession. After a not-very-relaxing first-time landing back on Gene and Jim's home planet of Sentinel, Gene, Jim, and Melfina rent a car and visit the overjoyed person called Fred Luo. Fred can't wait to get closer to both Gene and Jim. Melfina, on the other hand -- well -- she's quite safe! Getting down to business, Fred explains about his family's fortune and the status of Heifong and the frontier. Gene is forced to realize that outfitting a grappler ship will be an expensive proposition. Fred can help, but for a price. While Gene works up the list of weapons he needs, Suzuka the Assassin attacks Fred and we find out why she has the nickname, "Twilight" Suzuka. Gene foils the assassin's plot and duels with Suzuka, shotgun against blade. Can Gene win? Impossible to tell since the magical hour of twilight passes. Gene gets his grappler weapons from Fred by agreeing to protect him against Suzuka's attacks. Gene figures that Suzuka was able to bypass Fred's security sensors by using a Bokuto, a super-strong, sharp-as-steel sword with a blade made from wood. Gene and Fred hatch a scheme; Fred wants Gene to stick to him like glue, Gene wants to get away. Suzuka tracks Gene down and tries to scrag him. Using his wits, Gene negates Suzuka's current contract, substituting something much more dangerous -- and personal. The meeting ends in stalemate, but invites future confrontation.
