Synopsis
As screened on the Military Channel, the documentary series Combat Zone pulls viewers "inside" of noted armed conflicts, military missions and wartime turning points from the late 20th and 21st century. Each episode hones in on one such event, with everything shot through the soldiers' eyes. In each case, dramatic reenactments (featuring professional actors) are used to transport audiences back to the place and time in question. The episode entitled "Ambush in Hawijah (Iraq, 2004)" hearkens back to August 7, 2004, when Operation Iraqi Freedom inadvertently prompted grueling assaults on the USAF Forward Operating base in the vicinity of Hawijah, Iraq, known as Fort McHenry. The U.S. military immediately responded by attempting to guard the then-nascent Iraqi police force - and encountered untoward numbers of casualties in downtown Hawijah.
