Episode Guide
SLA Gunfight
Series: Combat Zone
Synopsis
As screened on the Military Channel, the documentary series Combat Zone pulls viewers "inside" of noted armed conflicts, military missions and wartime turning points from the late 20th and 21st century. Each episode hones in on one such event, with everything shot through the soldiers' eyes. In each case, dramatic reenactments (featuring professional actors) are used to transport audiences back to the place and time in question. The episode entitled "SLA Gunfight (Los Angeles, 1974)" recalls the startling events of May 17, 1974, when, following Patricia Hearst's kidnapping and brainwashing by the members of a domestic terrorist group known as the Symbionese Liberation Army (and the subsequent San Francisco bank robbery in which she participated), the LAPD and several Swat Team members surrounded the SLA compound in Los Angeles and burned it to the ground - prompting the entire nation to speculate about whether Hearst was one of the casualties.
