Synopsis
Prince Edward tours Portsmouth, home to a maritime museum and the Royal Navy. Included: a visit to Henry VIII's recently salvaged "Mary Rose"; Lord Nelson's flagship, H.M.S. "Victory"; and Her Majesty's Yacht, "Britannia.", Britain has been a world power in terms of maritime strength, and Portsmouth is the world's oldest naval base. Crown and Country: Portsmouth, another in the PBS series hosted by Edward Windsor, Earl of Wessex, looks at major events connected with Portsmouth. The first cup of tea in England was enjoyed at Portsmouth by the bride of Charles II, Katharine of Braganza at her wedding. Windsor recounts the battles fought by the historic ships "The Victory," "The Warrior," and "The Mary Rose," and goes onboard each vessel. The episode concludes with a trip onboard the Queen's yacht, "Britannia," the last before its retirement.
