Synopsis
"The City: Heart of the Empire" tours the 677-acre municipality that is the heart of London and Britain's financial nerve center. The City was incorporated during the reign of King John in the 13th century and its government, the Corporation of London, is the model for the national parliament at Westminster. Host Edward Wessex visits the corporation's home, Guild Hall. He also visits the Royal Exhange, which was founded in 1566, and the Bank of England, which was founded in 1694 (to finance a war with France). Underneath it are floor tiles dating to Roman times.
