Synopsis
Jack and Hannah are visiting a trade gathering set up by the moles -- the tribe that works underground, often for Scharnhorst. While there, Hannah stumbles across an ancient artifact -- a mysterious book labeled as top secret. She discovers that the book is from a cybernetics laboratory, with specific warnings to stay away. She confronts Ferris, the mole she acquired it from, and discovers that Scharnhorst is excavating in search of the lab. Jack comes to the same discovery from the other end by investigating a dried riverbed; when he discovers that the river has been dammed for excavations, he sneaks onto the site. Hannah and Jack connect, but not before Scharnhorst makes her discovery: a robot designed for automated digging and mining operations. Very quickly, they find out why the robot was kept off-limits -- it can't be controlled, and neither can the hundreds of similar robots. (Original air date: November 6, 1993.).
