Synopsis
Sure that nobody likes him, Rick (Rik Mayall), the People's Poet, attempts suicide by ingesting a bottle of laxatives. But there's something more important in the works, because it's been years since the lads' clothes have been washed and one of Vyvyan's (Adrian Edmondson) socks has achieved mobility. It's time to visit the local laundrette. Vyvyan uses psychology and extreme violence to gain the cooperation of the washing machines, but things turn sour when the boys realize they've forgotten to bring change. Back at home, Neil (Nigel Planer) breaks some rather large news -- they've been invited to take part in the University Challenge. Perfect timing for a cut to Motörhead performing "Ace of Spades." After a world of troubles on a train, including a brief decapitation for Vyvyan, the guys of Scumbag College show up late to go against the brats from Footlights (whose members include future stars Emma Thompson, Hugh Laurie, and Stephen Fry). Thanks to a thoughtful bomb toss from Vyvyan and a bit of question tampering from Rick, the boys of Scumbag U appear to be taking the lead in the competition. But a giant éclair dropped by a careless doctor just might spell doom.
