Synopsis
This 90-minute Cadfael mystery was adapted for television by Christopher Russell from the novel by Ellis Peters. Brother Cadfael (Derek Jacobi) of 12th century Shrewbury is intrigued by the horrible nightmares experienced by a novice monk. It gradually develops that the nightmares are connected with the disappearance of a former priest who has been investigating the novice's estate on behalf of the King. Probing further into the mystery, Cadfael reveals an abundance of closeted family skeletons. "The Devil's Novice" was first seen in England on August 18, 1996.
