Synopsis
By the time Sarah returns to Pankor, Mabel has been buried (though not as Barbie believes she should have been) and Susan's baby has been born. Merrick also returns to Pankor, badly disfigured and on the brink of madness. However, it is Susan who loses her hold on sanity. Re-enacting an ancient ritual for despatching a scorpion, Susan surrounds her baby son with a ring of burning kerosene and begins to chant, "Little prisoner, go free.".
