Synopsis
The Yeoman Warders are an elite band - just 40 of them live with their families inside the Tower. For the first time ever, the extraordinary training of a new 'Beefeater' is shown on television. It is a gruelling feat of endurance for trainee Yeoman Warder Simon Dodd to memorise 900 years of history. If he passes the test he will help guide tourists around Britain's oldest and most popular historic attraction. And he and his wife will have to leave their semi and back garden and move into a new home in the Tower complete with arrow loops for windows, and a moat for a garden. The film also reveals how Victorian ladies came to prick Henry Viii's famously large codpiece to aid their fertility, and how Eastenders enjoyed playing in the imported sand of the Tower Pleasure Beach as late as the 1950's.
