Synopsis
For the first time, Britain's most popular historic attraction, Her Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress, The Tower of London, has allowed unique access to television cameras creating a documentary series that goes to the heart of the Tower's history and inhabitants. It shows scenes from Tower life never previously broadcast. The Tower is most notorious as a place of execution, but what is the truth behind its bloody reputation? This film investigates the reality of death at the Tower, from the murder of the Princes in the Tower to the beheadings of the Earl of Essex and Lady Jane Grey. The Tower is still full of clues from the past: graffiti left by condemned prisoners and a Yeoman Warder's home that still has the locks used to incarcerate doomed men. Experts piece together the exact diary of an execution and the scaffold, block and axe are recreated from the grisly historic evidence.
