Synopsis

Leo Johnson and Jacques Renault become the main suspects in Laura Palmer's murder in Twin Peaks, Vol. 5, the fifth regular-season episode of the unique, often bizarre, genre-twisting soap opera, created by David Lynch and Mark Frost. Lesli Linka Glatter (Now and Then) directs this installment, which finds Agent Dale Cooper and Sheriff Harry Truman with several new leads. A shirt bearing Leo's initials proves to be stained with the blood of Jacques Renault, and a photo of Leo's truck turns up in a local porn magazine. They track down Renault's cabin, along the way gathering testimony on Laura's death from unlikely sources -- Waldo the mynah bird and the Log Lady's log. More unexpected assistance comes from Audrey Horne, who, hoping to impress Cooper, takes it upon herself to infiltrate One-Eyed Jack's. Meanwhile, Donna Hayward forms a new bond with James Hurley and Madeline Ferguson; Shelley Johnson and Bobby Briggs continue their affair; Leland Palmer's behavior grows even more unhinged; and Hank Jennings comes calling on his former accomplices. While the episode appears to bring the mystery of Laura Palmer close to a conclusion, things in the town of Twin Peaks, like the owls, are not what they seem.
