Synopsis
The family receive a warm welcome at Duneagle Castle when they visit Rose and her parents in the Highlands. But there is no disguising the tensions between their hosts. Back at Downton, Carson is determined to keep the servants working hard, but with a country fair coming up, will some be tempted to push their luck? Could romance be on the cards for Mrs Patmore?, We return to Downton Abbey during the Roaring Twenties as the lives of its occupants adjust to the extraordinary social change brought on by the Great War. Viewers can expect to see Lady Mary's wedding to Matthew Crawley and a lesson in the power for the pound and the penny as the Crawleys await the arrival of Lady Cora's mother (played by Shirley MacLaine) in the hopes she will provide a cash injection into the family coffers. It has also been revealed that one key character won't make it through the dangerous era. Could there really be a death at Downton?, Bates is freed from prison; Thomas makes a play for Jimmy; Branson's brother visits; Violet supports Edith's desire to become a journalist; and Matthew discusses the mismanagement of the estate with Robert.
