Episode Guide
French Fried
Series: Queer as Folk
Synopsis
Michael (Hal Sparks) and David (Chris Potter) appear to be living an idyllic life as a couple, but Michael is frustrated with David's insistence on paying for everything. Mel (Michelle Clunie) goes to Babylon with Ted (Scott Lowell) and Emmett (Peter Paige) for "Dyke Night," but every woman there seems to remind her of Lindsay (Thea Gill). Justin (Randy Harrison) brags to Brian (Gale Harold) about his SAT scores, and all the Ivy League schools he could attend. Brian seems concerned about Justin going to school out of state, and Justin teases him for revealing that he cares. At school, Justin intercedes when homophobe Chris Hobbs (Alec McClure) taunts another student and gets into a scuffle. The teacher blames Justin, who curses him out, earning a suspension. Debbie (Sharon Gless) suggests Justin try to educate the people at his school. Mel goes to see Lindsay, and is shocked when a snooty French guy, Guillaume (Noam Jenkins) answers the door, and won't let her in to see Gus. Brian is also concerned when Mel tells him about it. They don't feel any better when they find out Lindsay plans to marry Guillaume for immigration reasons. Michael finds out the checks he's been giving David for their expenses haven't been cashed, and confronts him. David agrees that they should only do things they both can afford, before revealing that he had planned a surprise weeklong trip to Paris. Michael suddenly feels conflicted. Justin and Daphne (Makyla Smith), with help from Debbie and Brian start a "Gay-Straight Student Alliance" at school, but the principal stops the meeting because they didn't go through "proper channels." Justin has another encounter with Chris on the street, and reveals a humiliating secret about him. This episode was directed by Jeremy Podeswa (The Five Senses).
