Synopsis
Girls innocently sharing lip gloss on a school trip had deadly consequences when an aggressive strain of meningitis spread. How did authorities contain the lethal virus?, The Boston Children's Hospital is flooded with young girls suffering from an outbreak of meningitis. At first, health officials believe only one local school is at risk, until girls from other areas of the city become infected as well. A statewide epidemic is feared, and the source must be found to eliminate further infections. Meningitis bacteria are transmitted primarily by saliva, and doctors are able to trace the bacteria to a Girl's Club bus trip, where students shared snacks and lip-gloss. The Girl's Club is closed, and nearly 600 elementary school children are kept home from school to help stem the spread of the bacteria.
