Synopsis
Via a meticulously-selected combination of outer space footage, state-of-the-art CG graphics and informed scientific discussion, the History Channel documentary series The Universe investigates various aspects of the cosmos, with each episode devoted to one particular subtopic. The episode entitled "Spaceship Earth" explores the ways in which scientists now believe that the Earth, third planet from the sun, evolved. It details how Earth survived an incredibly violent interplanetary atmosphere to grow, prosper and evolve, as well as the living beings on Earth that can provide insights into how earthbound life initially formed, even to this day. The program also reflects on the various forces that may prompt the destruction of the Earth in the very near future.
