In Alaska, extreme weather is a bitter fact of life. In parts of the state where aircrafts are the only way in or out, bush pilots survive by using their skills and instincts to tame the turbulent skies. Drake Olson is a former racecar driver who's as unpredictable as the weather. With an off-the-grid hangar and a rough-hewn manner, he seems to improvise his way through life. But when it comes to flying a group of skiers, who are unfamiliar with the terrain, deep into the backcountry, he has to use his intimate knowledge and feel for the mountains to guide them to safety. Dustin Carroll is a steady and steely top gun, a young helicopter pilot who flies missions nearly every day to keep southeast Alaska safe from storms and avalanches. With power lines lying in the path of brutal winter storm systems, Dustin flies avalanche experts into the isolated mountain passes outside of Juneau. On Kodiak Island, Jay Wattum is the devil-may-care flyboy whose job it is to deliver the mail to some of the most remote corners of the state. It's a job he enjoys for the chance to meet and joke around with some of Alaska's quirkiest characters. But when his GPS goes out and his gauges freeze up mid-flight, even Jay knows when to get serious. Zaz Staheli is a fourth generation pilot who flies for Lee Sea Air. A young, vibrant, single mother who must face an entirely different kind of danger when the Alaska State Troopers call her for an emergency pickup after they make an arrest.
