A new four-part historical drama written and created by Peter Flannery and Martine Brant, starring Jamie Dornan, Freya Mavor, Joe Dempsie, Alice Englert and Eve Best. The first episode starts in 1680 in Hadley, Massachusetts where Ned Hawkins (Dempsie) is warning the townsfolk to keep up with the rents owed to his father's company, The Hawkins Bay Company, when they are interrupted by a Native American attack. Ned fights alongside Hope Russell (Englert), the daughter of the town's pastor, but it's only when Colonel William Goffe (James Cosmo) arrives that the town is saved. Goffe is a fugitive; one of the last remaining men who signed the death warrant of Charles I, led by Ned and Hope he flees into the wilderness. At Fanshawe House in Oxfordshire, Angelica Fanshawe (Best) now Countess of Seacourt, has created a safe haven for her Catholic husband John Francis (Patrick Malahide) and her daughter,Beth (Mavor). It is the day of Beth's 21st birthday and the festivities are interrupted when outlaws try to rob the party guests and Beth is kidnapped and taken into the woods. Her kidnapper is Abe Goffe (Jamie Dornan), a rebel working to overthrow the reign of Charles II (Jeremy Northam). Abe jolts her into consciousness and asks whether she can stand by as the liberties won with her father's Civil War blood are destroyed. Beth leaves the woods transformed - in love with Abe and his political ideals. Meanwhile in London, Judge Jeffreys (Pip Carter) the ruthless enforcer of the King's justice has scores to settle with Angelica and sends a spy, Will Blood (James McArdle), to infiltrate her household. Back in Massachusetts, William Goffe is hunted down by the King's agent and Hope implores Ned to warn Angelica that she is in mortal danger.

About This Guide
This episode guide brings together the episode runtime, synopsis, series context, and nearby episode navigation for New Worlds. That gives readers and search engines a clearer relationship between the episode and the parent series instead of treating the page as an isolated record.
Editorial Take
Episode 1 is presented as an episode-level guide that still keeps the parent series context visible, which is important because isolated episode pages can otherwise feel detached and thin. This episode sits at position 1 out of 4, so the page can answer both the runtime question and the progress question at the same time. The 1h 10m runtime is especially useful here because episode search intent is often much more time-sensitive than general series search intent.
How OnlySynopsis Builds This Page
OnlySynopsis combines stored title metadata such as runtime, release information, genres, and cast or crew data into a reader-first guide. The goal is not just to list fields, but to help visitors understand whether a title fits their available time and viewing mood.
