Synopsis
Host Michael Moore is slapped with a restraining order while trying to deliver his sarcastic "Man of the Year" award to steel tycoon Ira Rennert. Included: how the restraining order kept Moore from appearing as a guest on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien.", In the first segment of the program, host Michael Moore presents the satirical "The Awful Truth Man of the Year" award to Ira Renard for being America's number one polluter. The Awful Truth reviews the achievements of Renco Group by visiting a number of its steel, lead, and magnesium factories throughout the United States. A "Nosey Neighbor" attempts to learn more about Renard by walking onto the construction site of his new home, only to be rebuffed by officials. Moore finally visits Renard's office to present the award to his secretary. When a restraining order bars Moore from coming within a 150 feet of Renard's office, he hires a security guard to make sure he doesn't cross the line, even if it's just to take an orphan skating at the rink in Rockefeller Plaza. In another segment, Moore asks the audience a number of questions and measures their response on an applause meter. Would one rather listen to conservative George Will pontificate or listen to nails on a blackboard? Will loses each time.
