Synopsis
Day One of Survivor: Cook Islands on the Aitutaki Atoll stirs up a lot of controversy amongst the contestants (and the viewers at home) with the decision to divide the 20 survivors along racial lines: the African-American Manihiki Tribe, the Asian-American Paku Paku Tribe, the Hispanic-American Aitutaki Tribe and the Caucasian Rarotonga Tribe. Once this innovation has settled in, the stage is set for another one: namely, the combining of the first two Reward and Immunity Challenges into a single event. For the record, the Manihikis lose not only the challenge, but also one of their members in the climactic "vote-off" session. Also, Jonathan Penner of the Rarotongas becomes the first survivor sent to Exile Island for the heinous offense of stealing one of the Puka Puka's chickens.
