Episode Guide
Surprise Visitor
Series: The Mill
Synopsis
The second series of the drama continues, focusing on the lives of the Quarry Bank mill workers at a time of turbulent social, political and industrial change. Eight months have passed and single Esther (Kerrie Hayes) after a difficult labour finally gives birth to a healthy baby boy. Esther returns to work the following day, but struggles to keep pace, while Lucy (Katherine Rose Morley) covers for her so she can rest, and the friends finally reconcile. Despite the overwhelming success of the Kersal Moor rally, the Chartist Petition, containing over one million signatures, is rejected by Parliament. Though bitterly disappointed, Daniel (Matthew McNulty) urges his angry, disillusioned comrades not to resort to physical force. Unfortunately, he doesn't show similar restraint towards his wife Susannah (Holly Lucas) when she tells him she wants to return to work, prompting Susannah to turn to Rebecca Howlett (Laura Main) for support. And Rebecca and her husband John (Mark Frost) receive tragic news. Dir: Bill Anderson; Prod: Johnathan Young;, Esther returns to work the following day, but struggles to keep pace.
