Synopsis
The ancient Greeks exerted a powerful influence on Western art, as painters and sculptors turned to the classic examples for inspiration. The Greek depictions of male and female figures (Korai and Kouroi) are featured in part one, Art of the Western World: Greece -- Birth of the Classical Tradition. Part two Art of the Western World: The Imperial Stones of Rome discusses the superiority of Roman engineers and architects. While the art of the Romans leaned toward the political, both Roman and Greek works were to affect the birth of humanism in the development of Western art.
