Synopsis

Also: the history of Florence's "Golden Age.", Hermitage Masterpieces: Art of the Early Italian Renaissance explores the vast art collection of the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, Russia. The collection, which contains over two million works, was started by Peter the Great, who brought back art treasures from his travels. Catherine the Great amassed many pieces of international significance during her reign, as did other rulers. The collection is housed in the Winter Palace, itself a work of art.
