Synopsis
Adapted from John Jakes's sprawling novel, North and South garnered attention when it first hit the small screen due to its supporting cast, including Gene Kelly, Robert Mitchum, Johnny Cash and Elizabeth Taylor as a New Orleans madam. However, most of the screen time went to Patrick Swayze and James Read, who playbest friends from different parts of the country in the years leading up to the Civil War.
