Synopsis
When Harry Met Sally is director Rob Reiner and screenwriter Nora Ephron's immensely entertaining take on romantic comedy. Harry (Billy Crystal) and Sally (Meg Ryan) are two friends who meet after college graduation, and the film follows the pair through the next ten years as they try to make lives for themselves in Manhattan. After a shaky beginning, the two become close friends, and though both have suffered a series of ill-fated relationships, they vow to remain platonic friends. Over time, Harry and Sally's relationship slowly changes to love, and they have difficulty admitting their true feelings to each other. Though the plot is slightly predictable, Ephron's screenplay is lively and witty, Reiner's direction is fresh, and Crystal and Ryan have real chemistry, making it one of the finest romantic comedies of the '80s. The soundtrack is excellent too, filled with pop standards as performed by Harry Connick Jr.
