Movie
WALL-E
Synopsis
This impressive movie, which not only won the 2009 Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film but also got five other nominations, marks Disney/Pixar's first foray into the world of sci-fi. Set hundreds of years in the future, the film's unlikely hero is Wall.E, a delightful, endearing and slightly lonely solar-powered robot, the last creature left on Earth. The polluted planet has been deserted by its inhabitants, leaving just the little robot to crush rubbish into cubes and use them to build skyscrapers. He also scavenges, and uses the treasures he finds to brighten up his home. Then one day the beautiful and mysterious EVE, a female robot, appears - and Wall.E falls in love. But EVE is there looking for signs of life so humans can return, and when Wall.E shows her one of his treasures - a tiny green plant -she has achieved her mission. When a space ship comes to collect her, Wall.E stows away... and finds himself on the space equivalent of a cruise ship, where the humans have everything from food to TV piped to them in their seats, as a result of which they are so bloated and fat that they can hardly walk! On board, Wall.E strives to rescue his precious plant and EVE, with the help of the captain and some of the humans. The plot and characters in this movie are so captivating that you hardly notice the almost total lack of dialogue in the first half, while top Hollywood stars provide the voices once they do appear. This film has everything: superb animation, great music, ingenious plot, lovable characters and lots of humour - but above all it's a love story. A movie to bring a smile to your face - and maybe a tear to your eye.
