Latvija. 19. gadsimta beigas. Kāda pagasta nostūrī ezera krastā līdzās dzīvo divas dzimtas. Dievlodziņi un Vilkači. Ar sensenu naidu savstarpējās attiecībās. Tiesa, naida izpausmes jūtamas tikai Dievlodziņu mājās. Kā ne! Viņiem aizvien veicas sliktāk, uzkrīt slimības, lopu sērgas, labība nepadodas.
