How Long Is “Venus Boyz”?

While most people are familiar with the notion of cross-dressing men who enjoy assuming the style and image of women, fewer realize that this phenomenon also reaches to the other side of the gender gap. Venus Boyz is a documentary from director Gabriel Baur which explores the underground world of "drag kings," sexually transgressive women who impersonate men -- some as a parody of clichéd gender roles, some to embrace masculine sexual pleasures, others in a willful desire to blur the lines between the sexual and social distinctions between male and female in contemporary culture. Baur's subjects range from women who perform at drag king nights at nightclubs and women who choose to live as men to the eyes of the outside word, to so-called "cyborgs," women who experiment with male hormones in order to bridge the physical gap between genders.
