Movie
Two Small Voices
Synopsis
Based on a true story, the made-for-cable Two Voices deals with two women from entirely different backgrounds who ultimately moved as one to shatter the illusion of infalliblity within the medical profession. After losing one of her breasts to cancer, Sybil Goldrich (Mary McDonnell) undergoes reconstructive surgery. Meanwhile, Kathleen Anneken (Gail O'Grady) is given breast implants for cosmetic reasons. Later on, both women suffer injurious side effects from their surgeries, but when they bring their concerns to their respective doctors, they are laughed off and dismissed. Ultimately, the paths of Sybila and Kathleen cross, and together they accumulate irrefutable evidence that both the doctors and the pharmaceutical companies have withheld vital information concerning the potential dangers of elective breast-implant surgery. But even though they're armed with this information, the two women face enormous obstacles in making their findings public and exacting justice. Also known as Two Small Voices, this film debuted over the Lifetime network on June 16, 1997, and was originally aired in tandem with a special, narrated byLinda Ellerbee), about the support organization created by Goldrich and Anneken on behalf of other breast-implant recipients.
