Τον Αύγουστο του 1944, δόθηκαν μάχες μεταξύ των γερμανικών δυνάμεων και των αντιστασιακών σε διάφορες περιοχές. Ειδικά στην Κοκκινιά, οι Γερμανοί σκότωσαν σε αντίποινα (με την βοήθεια κουκουλοφόρων προδοτών) εκατοντάδες και έσυραν άλλους, αιχμαλώτους σε στρατόπεδα. Το 1965, ο Άδωνις Κύρου –έχοντας υπάρξει ο ίδιος αντιστασιακός και γνωρίζοντας τα γεγονότα- μετέφερε στο σινεμά αυτό το τραγικό γεγονός.
