The Well
Synopsis
The love affair between one of the cinema's greatest legends and the country he adored is at the heart of Swedish filmmaker Kristian Petri's unconventional documentary tracing Citizen Kane director Orson Welles' lifelong fascination with Spain. From the moment seventeen-year-old Welles first set foot in Seville to his tomb at the home of a renowned bullfighter in Ronda, Welles rich legacy in Spain still lives on today through the friends that he made and the experiences he shared. In order to better understand Welles fondness for the Spanish culture, filmmaker Petri not only travels to the sites where such features as Chimes at Midnight and F is for Fake were shot, but also conducts interviews with those who knew Welles best, including director Jess Franco, screenwriter Peter Viertel, drinking-partner William "Bill" Law, and longtime companion Oja Kodar.
