The Seventh Commandment
Synopsis
The seventh commandment is actually "Thou Shalt Not Steal," but the plot to this drama -- part of a "Commandments" series by the Kalem studios -sounds closer to either commandment number 6 ("Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery) or 9 ("Thou Shalt Not Covet Thy Neigbor's Wife"). After having his way with the wife of Amos Mitchell (Warner Richmond), Simon Craig (Bob Ellis) walks out on his wife and child and starts over in another city. He does well, working his way up to a mayoral candidacy. But Mitchell is still out for revenge. Since Craig doesn't know what he looks like, Mitchell becomes his secretary, then hires Craig's daughter, Dorothy -- who he doesn't recognize either -- as his stenographer. Mrs. Mitchell, meanwhile, is blackmailing Craig. A reporter, Dick Wallace (Tom Moore), who is in love with Dorothy, begins to unravel this tangled web. Craig makes a pass at his own daughter, and is shocked when Wallace tells him her true identity. Then Mrs. Mitchell shows up and her infuriated husband shoots both her and Craig. The police take the raving Mitchell away, while Wallace stays behind with Dorothy. Tom Moore also directed this convoluted three-reeler.
