Synopsis
John Ford's critically acclaimed classic western starring John Wayne, also on top form here, is the tale of an outsider's quest for revenge, which turns into something significantly more complex. The place is Texas, the time 1868, and Ethan Edwards has belatedly returned home from the Civil War. And while he seems to want to resume family life, something appears to be holding him back; there are hints of dark secrets in his recent past. But he's only back long enough to be reacquainted with them for the shortest of times before most are massacred by a Comanche raiding party. Edwards, full of loathing for the Native Americans, sets out to exact revenge for the killings and rescue the kidnapped womenfolk. However, Edwards can have no idea what an epic mission he's taking on, nor the emotional turmoil it will unleash, or quite how profoundly it will affect him. Also starring Natalie Wood and Jeffrey Hunter.
