The Sand Pebbles
Synopsis
Drama in which an American gunboat crew run into trouble on the Yangtze River in 1926 as China's civil war gathers momentum. When a purge of foreigners begins, they attempt to rescue a missionary and his daughter but find the way blocked by a barrage of junks. The ship's engineer, a loner who thrives on battle, looks forward to life with the daughter - if they make it to freedom.
