The Lady

Biopic of the inspirational life of the Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi. Shortly after he leads Burma to independence, her father Aung San and his colleagues are assassinated by military squad. Visiting England as an adult, his daughter meets her husband and settles in the country. Returning to her homeland to care for her sick mother, she encounters some of the people from her father's past and realises the need for reform within the country. She becomes involved in the political movement and is placed under house arrest for more than a decade, but her husband and children never give up hope of her release.
