Synopsis
Colin Firth stars in Tom Hooper's multi Oscar- and BAFTA-winning historical drama that depicts the Duke of York's struggle to conquer his speech impediment on his way to becoming King George VI. The Duke of York suffered terribly from his pronounced stutter throughout his childhood; and things have hardly improved now that 'Bertie' is an adult: in 1924 he's berated by his father King George V for the embarrassing mess he made of his first ever live broadcast to the nation; and he appears to be constantly bullied by his suave elder brother Edward, the Prince of Wales. However, Bertie's loving wife Elizabeth is determined to find a cure for her husband's problem. She hires the unconventional Australian actor and speech therapist Lionel Logue as the man for the job. And, in his scruffy office in Harley Street, as the commoner and the royal bond, so the Duke of York starts to get a grip on his stammer. But a succession of world events are set to test the efficacy of his cure, as he is propelled ever further into the limelight and the world edges ever nearer war.
