The Killing Fields
Synopsis
Oscar-winning drama based on the New York Times' Sydney Schanberg's own account of his friendship with Cambodian interpreter Dith Pran. Schanberg is one of the western journalists chronicling the fall of Cambodia to the Khmer Rouge, with the help of Cambodian journalist Dith Pran as his interpreter. When Phnom Penh itself falls, it is too dangerous for the westerners and they are, finally, evacuated. But for the Cambodian citizens who have been helping them there is no such escape route, and Pran is forced to endure the brutalities of the Khmer Rouge regime, deny his past and rely on his own wits to survive and escape.
