Synopsis
Young Nick Chapman has just graduated from film school, and as he steps out of the ivory tower and into the Hollywood fast lane, movie-making history looms over him, flooding his vision with high-gloss dreams. Nick has also just won the National Film Institute's 10th Annual Student Film Awards and opportunity is knocking heavily at this door. Personified by power-hungry agents, actors and movie executives clamoring shamelessly after the fruits of his talent. When Nick arrives in the office of Hollywood film executive Allen Habel with his first script idea, he's about to realise the dream that has driven him since his parents first gave him a camera at the age of 4 - to direct a big picture. It all seems so simple and wonderful. Nick knows he has the talent, all he wants is the cahnce. But he also knows he had better play the game correctly, and that means trying to please those who can help his career. As Hable begins to offer his "creative input," Nick gradually finds himself making more and more compromises. At the same time, the perks of success are visited upon him in the form of a sexy starlet, a luxury car and the ultimate measure of success: the car phone! Unable to resist the tempation , Nick buckles under his own lack of conviction. While trying to gain power and fame, he loses his friends, his true love and even his self-respect. When the sutdio undergoes a sudden corporate restructuring, Nick finds himself to be last months' flavor and takes a nose-dive from coddled artist to busboy applicant. But from the depths of rock bottom, Nick discovers that there's nowehre to go but up - and this time he's going to do it his way!.
