Movie
The Barefooted Kid
Synopsis
Noted director Johnny To remakes Chang Cheh's 1975 kung-fu yarn Disciples of Sholin. The film opens with a brawny innocent from the country named Kuan Feng-yu (Aaron Kwok) venturing into the city, following the death of his father. Kuan seeks out family friend Tuan Ching-yun (Ti Lung) who works at Four Seasons Weavers. Formerly a high-ranking guard for the emperor, Tuan now keeps a low profile protecting the establishment's beautiful owner (Maggie Cheung) from a vicious commercial rivalry. Ke Hu-po (Kenneth Tsang), a high-ranking civil servant who also owns Four Season's rival, is hell-bent on claiming the business no matter what. When Ke's henchmen burn all of Four Season's wares, Feng-yu sets out to seek revenge. Wowed by the youth's kung-fu prowess, Ke tricks the dull-witted Feng-yu into joining his side. As Ke starts to take control of the area, Feng-yu realizes that he is complicit in putting Tuan Ching-yun and his lovely ex-boss in danger.
