Er berichtet von einem kinderlosen Pärchen in Berlin, dessen größte Gemeinsamkeit ihre Gleichgültigkeit gegenüber dem anderen zu sein scheint. Für Eduard scheint eine Scheidung der einzige Ausweg zu sein, doch Charlotte findet das unsinnig, solange sich noch kein Ersatz für den Lebensgefährten ankündigt.
