Synopsis
Waise Azimi's documentary Standing Up offers an intimate look at the men of Afghanistan who, in an attempt to build a better future for themselves personally, have entered the military during the war on terror. The director stayed with a new group of recruits during the first four months of their training, and manages to show how the larger social forces at play affect the lives of individuals.
