Synopsis
This overlong but compelling noir mystery stars John Hodiak as George Taylor, a war veteran suffering from amnesia. He's not sure what happened or even who he is, but all evidence points to the "fact" that he's committed murder. Using a baggage claim check as the starting point, Taylor tries to put the pieces together, with the help of nightclub singer Christy Smith (Nancy Guild) and sympathetic hanger-on Mel Phillips (Richard Conte). Lt. Donald Kendall (Lloyd Nolan), a dedicated but likable police detective, is around at the end to collar the actual murderer. Somewhere in the Night is an essentially visual entertainment from the otherwise verbose writer/director Joseph L. Mankiewicz.
