Movie
Second Best
Synopsis
A stirring, thoughtful drama chronicling the difficulties in the developing relationship between Graham Holt (William Hurt), a shy, single, middle-aged man who works in a sub-Post Office in Wales, and his adopted son James. James still idolises his natural father despite having spent several years in care following his mother's suicide and his father's imprisonment. Will Graham always be second best?, Intimate drama about a shy, unmarried postmaster in Wales who wishes to adopt a disturbed young boy whose mother has committed suicide and whose father is in and out of prison. Social workers consent to them spending a trial period together, but the boy makes it clear that the postmaster will never take the place of his real father.
