Synopsis
Hutch (Bryan Russell) is a Little Leaguer with an overactive imagination. He tells his teammates and his coach Bill Turner (William Frawley) that he and his father are friends with baseball heroes Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris. The boy's disbelieving team prompts the boy to seek out the two Yankee stars. He gets into the spring training camp and gets to meet his baseball idols. After a lecture by the sluggers that honesty is the best policy, the entire Little League team is invited to attend a spring training game. Yankee manager Ralph Houk and ace left-handed pitcher Whitey Ford also make cameo appearances. The release of the film coincided with the start of the 1962 baseball season. Roger Mares was coming off a career season in which he won his second consecutive Most Valuable Player award on his way to smashing Babe Ruth's single season home run record. The Yanks won the World Series in 1961 and 1962. Mantle and Ford would one day be elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
